Tuesday 16 August 2005 Last May 10 families of soldiers who were killed fighting in Iraq went to Downing Street to deliver their request for a full indepenedent public inquiry into the decision to invade Iraq and for a full investigation into the deaths of their sons and husbands. Tony Blair rejected this request saying that the decision to invade Iraq was unconnected with the deaths of the soldiers there. Tomorrow the families group, now 17 strong, will begin their court action to bring the government to account for their illegal war. Both Rose Gentle whose son Gordon was killed in Iraq and Reg Keys whose son Thomas was also killed will be going to the High Court tomorrow, Wednesday 17 August, to lodge their court papers. They will be available for interview on the steps of the Royal Courts of Justice at 11am. Rose Gentle said today, I have longed waited for the day when I will see justice for my son, I now know that we are closer to establishing the truth about the war in Iraq and the dishonest way in which we were led to war. for further information contact Andrew Burgin 07939 242229 |
