When writing to your MEPs, please remind them that the EU actually helps Israel strangle Gaza and that the EU has the power to immediately open a lifeline to Gaza [see below]. As the Israeli blockade of Gaza is not complete without closing the Rafah Crossing, which is a recognised official border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, it relies on EU complicity in keeping it closed. Gaza remained isolated in spite of having this official border crossing with Egypt because the EU helps Israel to keep it closed see David Morrisons excellent analysis at: www.david-morrison.org.uk/palestine/eu-strangles-gaza.htm Therefore the EU could take immediate actions that would alleviate some of the suffering of the 1. 5 million Palestinians imprisoned in Gaza by refusing to obey Israeli wishes. Instead the EU should carry out its obligation in facilitating the opening of the Rafah Crossing. It is particularly important to highlight these facts to those MEPs who replied there is little the EU can do. Regards, Yael Kahn The full list and details of the UK MEPs is available at: |
