T&GWU Deputy General Secretary Margaret Prosser will address the night shift at GM-Vauxhall Ellesmere Port this evening in preparation for the industrial action ballot beginning tomorrow morning. The two day shifts will meet tomorrow afternoon.

According to T&G convenor Mick Whitley, the union is looking for a “yes, yes” vote to endorse action short of strike but also authorising all-out strike.

The postal ballot will run for 7 days and the result will be announced next week. If the ballot is successful, the company will receive a further 7 days notice of strike action.

Similar mass meetings are being held in Luton today and the ballot will also include the Toddington Rd. plant.

T&GWU members on Merseyside may recall their General Secretary’s address to the Liverpool dockers in March 1996.
