Caroline Bedale I certainly endorse Pauls sentiments. I suggest we (or at least those of us in UNISON) should also send letters - from individuals or from branches if weve got meetings in the next day or so - to Dave Prentis (UNISON General Secretary), to Malcolm Cantello (Chair / President of UNISON NEC) and copied to Lilian Macer (Chair of Health Service Group Executive - all these would go to UNISON, 1 Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9AJ) saying that maximum support should be given to Yunus in the employers disciplinary hearing. In order for this to be a reality, any internal UNISON processes should be put on hold until after his job is secured - it is unreasonable to expect him to attend a UNISON hearing just two working days before the employers one. Caroline Bedale Karen Reissmann Dear Dave Prentis, I am writing to ask you to delay the UNISON rule I hearing of Yunus Bahksh, a member of UNISON health service executive. Yunus has a hearing with his management on Monday 19th March. On Thursday 15th March he has been called to UNISON hearing!! This is ridiculous and gives him no time to focus on planning his defence in his potential sacking from work and could seriously disadvantage him in that respect. I would strongly argue that UNISON postpone its hearing until after the case at work has been completed. Karen Reissmann Ian McKendrick To: d.prentis@unison.co.uk Dear Mr Prentis I am appalled to hear that Yunus Baksh, one of UNISONs leading activists and a member of the Health Service Executive, is not receiving the support all UNISON members should expect from their union when he is being victimised by his employer. I understand that Yunus has a hearing with his management on Monday 19th March, and needs to prepare his defence against what could potentially be an attempt by his employer to sack him. Yet in the same week UNISON has also decided to call a Rule I hearing just 4 days before the management hearing! This decision can only act to the detriment of Yunus, and I would urge that you intervene to have the Rule I meeting postponed until after management has concluded its attacks on Yunus.
