Hi Karen et al,

Southampton Health Branch Unison voted yesterday (6 Nov) to donate £3000 from our Industrial Action fund.

Mark Ladbrooke:

Brilliant, brilliant!

I think we need to get Manchester to give us a volunteer for a speaking tour of South East England. To do meetings in every hospital and health centre and build links with the wider labour movement (we’ll try to get Manchester activists in to talk to stewards at the BMW Mini car plant, to post workers at the Royal Mail Centre) and also to talk to students in our local colleges and universities (particularly healthcare students). Our local Keep Our NHS Public group feels passionate about this case - through them we’ll try to reach user groups and pensioner groups. UNISON’s retired members groups will go and harass local MPs.

Because of the national (and indeed international) significance of this fight we need to think big. The NHS is being destroyed by multinational corporations leading to dire service cuts despite record funding from working people.

In this era of cheap air travel its time for us to think and act globally too.

Regards, Mark.

PS Would Southampton activists tell the Portsmouth branch about their brilliant donation. Portsmouth definitely wont want to be upstaged by Southampton. Then we need to get them both to brag in front of Brighton...
