UCLH (London)

Karen,

We did indeed have Dave Prentis, Karen Jennings, Norma Stephenson along with at lease 15 other NEC members at our protest. We also had visits from Camden Council UNISON, SOAS UNISON and a local PCS steward.

An official UNISON photgrapher was there and a couple of other photos were taken.

Unfortunately not only am I completely technophobic but I do not own a digital camera. I hope your branch can get hold of a couple of the official photos.

We held our stewards meeting straightafter and agreed to send a further £3000 which is a total of £10, 0000 so far.. You are very well supported by UCLH UNISON’s branch committee.

Yours in solidarity,

Janet Maiden

Hi Karen

About 20 Health workers including Hospital Staff and GP’s and other Primary care staff took part in a Protest today at Mile End Hospital. We were joined by Michael Gavan from Newham Council -also sacked for standing up for his members, Tower Hamlets Respect councillor Oli Rahman and Carol Vincent from Big Brother!

We all wore gags and displayed signs saying “Don’t silence our Nurses this Xmas“ and “Is this what we want from our NHS? “

Guy Smallman took photos, they will be sent to the East London Advertiser and to your website.

HEALTH WORKERS JOIN DEMO AFTER WOMAN SACKED

Date : 06. 12. 07

Health workers in have staged a protest in support of a sacked colleague.

The protest yesterday was part of series of national demonstrations in support of Manchester nurse and trade unionist Karen Reissmann, who was sacked a month ago.

Ms Reissmann is appealing against the decision by Manchester’s Mental Health and Social Care Trust which says the dismissal was for gross misconduct.

Ms Reissmann, a psychiatric nurse of 25 years, claims her sacking came after she spoke out against health service cuts and privatisation.

Nick Holden, chairman of Leicestershire Health Unison branch which led the lunchtime protest outside Leicester General Hospital, said: “It could be any one of us facing the things that have been done to Karen Reissmann.

“We have to be able to speak out when we believe our jobs, our colleagues, our services or our patients are at risk. “

15 staff and supporters attended a 15 minute dinnertime demo outside Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. We were interviewed and filmed for the Wakefield Express newspaper and website and Mick Griffiths, UNISON Branch Secretary was interviewed live on Ridings FM radio station.

I will post photos and a link when they are available.

Hi attached are a couple of photos from Sheffield Northern General UNISON - thanks to louise and (really sorry didn’t catch your name) another manchester striker for coming over - we had about a dozen people at the gates over half an hour unfortunately a lot of stewards couldn’t attend due to attending a meeting regarding the announcement yesterday that the Trust is putting domestic services out to tender - however they sent their solidarity greetings to Karen and everyone fighting so hard for her reinstatement.

Best wishes Jill
