Dear Sisters and Brothers, Karen Reissmann has been sacked from her job as Community Psychiatric Nurse in Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust. Between August and December, fellow members of her UNISON branch went on days and weeks of strike to try and get her reinstated, and because of massive generous donations from all over the country, the branch was able to pay good levels of hardship payment on top of UNISONs official strike pay. The campaign for reinstatement continues and UNISON is still supporting her in taking her case to an Employment Tribunal but under the unions rules the branch cannot pay her hardship because the strike action has been suspended. Those who supported the campaign to reinstate Karen are urged to show their continuing support by contributing to a fund set up to ensure that she isnt forced to give up because of lack of pay. Karen is registered with a nursing agency, but that work may be intermittent. The fund will be used to help maintain her pay at its previous level, and will be administered by members of the Manchester Mental Health Workers Solidarity Committee. Any surplus will be used for the campaign. The standing order form is below and also attached. Please feel free to circulate this email widely.
