Peterborough leaflet (PDF)
Virgin info to GP’s (PDF)

I went to their presentation last night in Peterborough. Virgin are going to provide the buildings and rent out space in them (at same cost per square foot as GPs currently paying!!) plus renting the rest of building to Dentists, Physios, minor surgery and Eye Laser surgery etc. I felt they may have alternative therapies as well.

They want to employ all non clinical staff like admin but no nurses or medical staff, they also said Admin staff who were in the NHS pension scheme would not be able to continue and would have to join Virgin’s which was not as good.

There was discussion on Clinical Governance as they are using this as a selling point.

Questions on their interest in Social Enterprise from a GP - they said they would provide the support for the GP if they wanted to tender for PCT services.

If anyone wants to go to the other presentations you can sign in and do not need to apply on line, not much real detail, but the Buffet was excellent.

So what would happen to GP employed nurses then? Perhaps they would have to maintain their contracts?

Regards, Mark.

Yes as far as I could make out all clinical staff eg practice nurses and also where District Nurses are working from the practice would stay with the GP.

One GP asked where will Virgin make their profit? They seemed reluctant to say only that Virgin as a company would support start up costs, they refused to give details and said they would show to individual practices if they were interested in joining them.

They appeared very irritated by the TUC pickets outside who were giving out leaflets

Sue

Many thanks Sue,

Shame about the TUC pickets!!!

I think we should consider putting a boycott Virgin resolution to conference.
