Your employers are about to combine with others in local govt and elsewhere in a project which will result in cuts in services, will undermine your members terms and conditions and professional codes, will privatise even more services, and will see your members being directed by managers from another employer against whom they will have little redress. This is under the innocuous-sounding title of the Local Government Public Services framework.

It is under direction from the Government, who will monitor the effect and who have set up mechanisms for the Private sector to be able to complain if they aren’t getting enough of the cake. You need to find out about it. You need to hear what we can do about it now! and organise for steps in the future.

I have just been to a seminar which outlined the effects of the LGPS framework - above.

Get briefed - for UNISON members, UNISON has briefings which don’t give examples of what will happen but are otherwise good: read the Councillors briefing for the effect on local democracy and accountability; read the VERY badly-titled ‘Make Local Services count: getting to grips with the new local public services framework’....

Don’t know what the other unions have. Will hit PCTs first, but hospital-based staff also and of course local govt services (and Transport, etc).
