For a long time there have been claims of co-operation between the employer and the union. Then recently came the shattering revelation that his main accuser, Kerry Cafferty, was a member of five Facebook groups that are a focus for racists and fascists. One of her Facebook “friends” is an open member of the BNP. We now have the added factor of evidence from the fascist Stormfront site of the direct involvement of the BNP in this case and the possibility that the BNP has an “insider” in the union or the Trust or both. And whatever the Trust and the union says, the key evidence which led to the charges against Yunus came from Kerry Cafferty. She has now resigned from UNISON and therefore will not face a disciplinary investigation. Wider layers are having to react. Dave Andersen MP has told Yunus of his concerns about the issue, and Unison has sent Bill Gilbey (a very senior officer, Dave Prentis’s right-hand man) to talk to Yunus about the matter. Meanwhile the Trust is in crisis over continuing to uphold the sacking. It is time to make the upmost of this situation and keep pushing the Trust and the union bureaucracy on to the defensive so we get justice for Yunus.
