WSIB Recognizes Cancer Cluster at GM

Fellow Workers,

The WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) has acknowledged the existence of a cancer cluster among GM workers who were employed on the Brake Bonding and Caliper Assembly lines on the West Side of the Components Plant where asbestos brake linings were used in brake assemblies for decades. This means the WSIB got the message from the dozens of GM workers who filed WSIB Worker's Exposure Incident Forms in recent months to document their often sustained exposure to asbestos in and around these operations.

This makes it more important than ever for retired and active workers who were exposed to asbestos particularly in these assembly operations who have not come forward to document their exposure to do so. The more affected workers who come forward the greater the body of evidence documenting the extent of the presence of asbestos in these operations will be. This will increase the liklihood of a WSIB claim being allowed if you become affected by exposure to the asbestos used in these assembly operations.

In Solidarity,
