The former Front activist Vasili Carrillo, 41, is today a member of Gladys Maríns presidential team. When he was 13 he was already a Communist militant, three years later came the Coup and with it his fathers death, and exile. In 1983, he moved to join the ranks of the recently formed FPMR - then under the wing of the Communist Party - soon to be detained under charges of having participated in the armed entry into Carrizal Bajo, in November 1986. His fame grew in prison, turning him into the spokesman of the FPMR, the organisation which he left after having serious differences with the leadership. He left prison in mid-1991. Then, he decided to change direction: transforming himself into a manager. However, in December 1996, due to several debts the premises had to shut down. On 26 July that year desperation had led him to take the lead in making threats when a judicial Receiver and the Carabineros came to seize the assets. |
